Job Description:
Overview
The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking an
applicant for a full-time position in the Concentrated Animal
Feeding Operation (CAFO) Program.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Attention to detail, independent management of workload, and clear
written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Nutrient
Management Plan review and/or permitting experience is highly
preferred. Farming experience or experience working with the
farming community is highly preferred.
This is a dynamic position in a busy program. Candidates must be
able to multitask and shift gears quickly to address time critical
incidents that may pose environmental or public health threats.
This position may be eligible for telework and flexible work
schedule with supervisor approval. Designated workstation location
in Montpelier office. Occasional in-person meetings in Montpelier
will be required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Ability to use and knowledge of conservation planning and nutrient
management planning tools including RUSLE2 and the P-Index.Who May

Environmental Factors
Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some
field travel may be necessary for which private means of
transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure
to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and
construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve
traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of
regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may
be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a
regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science,
engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or
natural resources field AND three (3) or more years of experience
in a natural resources field.
OR
Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science,
engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or
natural resources field AND four (4) or more years of experience in
a natural resources field.
OR
Seven (7) years or more of experience in an engineering,
environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources
