Department/Unit: Post Surgical PRN Work Shift: Day (United States of America) The Nurse Clinician/Nurse Practitioner (Nurse Clinician/NP) is a nurse who, through clinical experience, study and supervised practice in patient care at the masters or doctoral level, has gained expertise in a specific specialty area of patient care services. The Nurse Clinician/NP demonstrates the advanced knowledge, skills, and credentialing required to function in advanced practice and expanded specialty nursing. The Nurse Clinician/NP has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the day to day implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse Clinician/NP is essential to the case management of patient with specialized health needs. The Nurse Clinician/NP works in collaboration with the attending physician, primary nurse and other health care providers to provide family centered care. The Nurse Clinician/NP is responsible and accountable for the development and application of specialty practice standards, staff development, regulatory compliance and research to enhance the quality of care to the patient and the patient's family. The Nurse Clinician/NP is accountable to Nursing for systems improvement, program development and quality of professional practice.
