The Massachusetts House of Representatives ("House") is comprised
of 160 independentlyelected Members, each representing a district
of approximately 43,000 people.Position Overview:
The Staff Director is responsible for overseeing the operations of
the Committee and supporting the Committee Chair by providing
support in the areas of office and staff management, communication,
and general administration. Manages priorities before the committee
and handles constituent matters as directed by the Chair. Performs
other duties asassigned.Reports to:
Reports to the Chair of the Committee.Essential Duties &
Responsibilities

this job at any time for any reason.Responsibilities/Essential
Functions:
--- Under the direction of the Chair, manage the efficient and
effective administration of the Committee. Take the lead with
establishing and maintaining office goals, policiesand
procedures;
--- Manage matters of importance to the Chair's district; attend to
community concerns,local businesses matters, and monitor local
news;
--- Attend meetings and forums on behalf of the Chair and act as a
liaison to city, town orcounty representatives;
--- Manage State House and/or District Office staff; supervise and
provide coaching andguidance to Committee staff;
--- Assign responsibilities and tasks to Committee staff and
monitor progress andcompletion of assignments;
--- Under the direction of the Chair, works on special commissions
and task forces indesignated topic areas;
--- Oversee legislation monitoring and tracking for Committee;
assist with budget filingsand manage legislative priorities for the
Chair or Committee;
--- Prepare summaries of legislation and briefing materials on
various topics for Chair; Provide orientation and training to new
employees regarding the operation of theoffice, and regarding
legislation and matters of importance to the Committee;
--- Conduct regular staff meetings and lead effective communication
among theCommittee staff;
--- Manage personnel matters, including providing hiring,
performance and disciplinaryrecommendations to the Chair;--- Under
the direction of the Chair may manage communication to engage with
the public, including but not limited to newsletters,press releases
and post content on social media platforms;
--- Serves as office liaison to support departments, including but
not limited to the House Human Resources and Business Offices;
--- Serve as a liaison between the Chair and constituents of the
District, exercisingindependent judgment to determine and implement
appropriate courses of action asdirected by the Chair;
--- Create administrative documents to be used as templates by
committee staff;
--- Manage the research and prepare responses to constituents,
stakeholders and otherinterest groups on matters for the Chair;
--- Review and approve legislative documents, including committee
redrafts, or billsummaries;
--- Organize committee hearings, provide support throughout the
hearing process, such as recording votes, filing amendments,
posting hearing notices, and reserving hearingrooms, organizing
virtual hearings, and obtaining necessary supplies;
--- Utilizeresearch and constituent databases;
--- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite;
--- Able to operate in a fast-paced professional office
environment; handle or operate standard office equipment, and
occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.--- The position is primarily
based in the State House and will require travel to New Bedford as
needed.QualificationsRequired Skills/Attributes:
--- Ability to interface and work with different communities and
personalities professionally and helpfully;
--- Ability to multi-task effectively, work independently and meet
deadlines on shortnotice;
--- Experience presenting complex data, analyses and information in
easily understoodformats;
--- Excellent research, analytical and interpersonal skills;
--- Excellent writing and communication skills;
--- Ability to communicate with members and colleagues effectively
and provide andreceive feedback professionally;
--- Ability to use standard office equipment and technology;
--- Ability to follow-up and complete
tasks.Education/ExperienceQualifications:
--- Bachelor's degree;
--- Prior work experience as a Legislative Aide or Committee
staff;
--- Prior legislative or related work experience for elected or
appointed officials, advocacy
groups or non-profit organizations is preferred.Position
Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, minimum of 37.5 hour per week position. Days
of work are typically Mondaythrough Friday. Hours vary and may
include evening and weekend work to
supporttheCommittee'slegislative or constituent activities.To
