The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. Hardware Engineering’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea, Sensors & Structures (USS) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of a diverse set of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. The USS department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer, located in Marlborough, MA. What You Will Do Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements. Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial builds, testing, transition to production, and production support Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals. Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions Mentor and guide less experienced engineers Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer duration travel assignments may be available but optional Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a team Experience in leading small development efforts and teams with cost and schedule responsibility Experience estimating project / tasks level of effort Strong communication skillset with ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences Experience with configuration management systems. Experience with 3-D modeling and Engineering Documentation practices. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. Qualifications We Prefer Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of electronics systems. Specific knowledge of packaging electronic equipment to meet physical and environmental constraints is preferred Experience with Military and Commercial Specifications Experience with PTC CREO and PDM Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience Experience managing financial and schedule performance of program level tasking Experience and certifications in Earned Value Project Management Experience with metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts), and rapid prototyping solutions. Experience with welding and/or bonding a plus. Demonstrated expertise in product assembly, fabrication methods, manufacturing processes and technologies including machined components & products. Experience in selection of materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility, and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation and prevention. Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
