DescriptionPosition Summary : As a Westover Job Corps team member, you will be responsible for providing career preparation instruction to new students that will enhance career readiness and job search competencies. As an instructor you will need to utilize a blended learning style and be able to differentiate your instruction based off of different student needs. This position does focus on maintaining a positive classroom environment and allowing the classroom setting to be engaging as well as teaching accountability . Here at Westover Job Corps we believe every student can learn, it is just needs to be presented in a way they understand.Reports to the Career Development Services Manager. Responsible for providing career preparation instruction to students in compliance with government and management directives.Essential Functions : Instruct new students on basic skills that will enhance career readiness and job search competencies. Motivate and counsel students in areas of retention, career success standards, career readiness, social skills and other areas as described in the career preparation curriculum. Develop and prepare lessons; recommend curricula changes. Coordinate delivery of individualized services with career preparation counselors, residential advisors and other departments as necessary to resolve concerns affecting student's commitment to continuing and completing training. Provide a classroom atmosphere conducive to continuous learning and student retention. Develop methods to maintain positive contact with admissions counselors and students' family members. Administer and correct tests and other assessment instruments; maintain and monitor student accountability and attendance daily in center information system (CIS); monitor and report student status daily to the supervisor of career preparation. Monitor and document student's progress in the (CIS) reports and case notes. Assist in the development of the center's career preparation plan. Observe, analyze and document accomplishments, attendance, job ethics, and personal appearance to determine readiness for movement to the career development period. Design activities for new students to make them fell welcomed and safe upon arrival. Distribute to all students a student handbook that accurately reflects current center behavioral expectations, benefits, policies, and procedures. Assess student's prior academic achievement, skill level needs, interest, and personal barriers so that appropriate individualized career development services and support can be provided early in enrollment. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps Zero Tolerance Policy and Center Behavior Management System by ensuring students demonstrate and practice set behavioral expectations that support employability and social development for career readiness success that are consistent with Center policies and expectations. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers. Participate in student employability programs and activities; develop and conduct enrichment programs as needed or assigned. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, consistently monitoring student behavior and conduct, and mentoring students where necessary. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices; attend all required staff training. Coordinate with other staff and departments regarding issues related to the provision of student services and to interdepartmental and center programs, activities, and events. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to live, learn and work. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience : Bachelor's degree and one year related experience. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements. Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
